What’s the first thing a newish writer does when he finishes his first novel? He googles “how to get my novel published”. Which is exactly what I fucking did, and thank god for that.
The first thing I landed on was the enormous and insanely helpful corpus of one Jane Friedman, a large portion of which is spent begging new writers to attend workshops. (And by the way, I can’t recommend enough her book Publishing 101. While I didn’t adhere to every single piece of advice, I found it an indispensable treasure trove of inside baseball for those of us who literally have no idea what we’re doing.)
Cut to me landing on the Midwest Writers Workshop website and trying to figure out how to juggle my finances so I could make it happen. Somehow I did, and it’s happening, and I can’t wait!
