Collaboration Agreement: Perfect Female Type

Thank you for considering me for your next collaboration! I love working with other artists, and collaborations are a great way to scratch that itch. Plus, the cross-promotional buzz is always a plus!

I have lots of collaborative experience and decades of time logged in the studio. Check out my LinkInBio to get an idea of my sound and style, including several successful collaborations and remix projects.

I believe that clarity and communication are essential to a successful collaboration. If everything looks good below, please write back and say you’re on board with the agreement, and we’ll get started!

(The use of generative AI in any capacity for any phase of the project, including cover art, is a red line for me. If that doesn’t work for you, we should end the collaboration now.)

1. Release Date & Format

We agree on a release date that works for both of us. We also agree on a release format (e.g. single, EP, album, compilation, Bandcamp only, etc.).

2. Artist Attribution

We decide whether the release will have two primary artists or a primary artist and a featured artist. I’m fine with either.

3. Ownership of Masters

We decide on a master ownership split, e.g. 50/50, 25/75, etc.

4. Revenue Splits (Master Income)

We decide on a revenue split.

5. Distribution & Distributor of Record

We decide early on which artist will handle the digital distribution. If the distributing artist uses a platform that doesn’t support automatic splits payments, that artist will

  • Make quarterly payments with a rolling $50 minimum per collaborator (anything < $50 per contributor rolls to the next quarter).
  • Send a quarterly statement even if our balance is below the agreed threshold.

6. Publishing & Songwriting

We decide on a songwriting/composition split that I will set up with SongTrust. To that end, I will need your full legal name, email address, PRO, and IPI number.

7. Bandcamp

We each sell the release on our respective Bandcamp pages and keep whatever revenues we make.

8. Artwork

We will either a) collaborate on the cover art together, b) draft individual ideas for consideration and decide on a favorite, or c) hire a graphic designer.

Regardless of the choice, we both agree to sign off on the final cover art before shipping the release. (The same terms will hold for promo videos, visualizers, and Spotify canvas loops.)

9. Promotion

We both agree to engage in at least minimal promotional activities like sharing promo clips on social media, both before and on release day. If either artist runs a playlist curator campaign through a platform like SubmitHub or Groover, they will share the list of contacted curators to avoid double submissions.

10. Takedowns & Changes

Releases may not be altered or taken down without mutual consent, except where required by DSPs or legal necessity. In the event of a distributor change, both parties agree to cooperate in good faith to preserve streaming stats and continuity.

11. What Else?

Let’s talk about any other details or questions you might have about collaborating with me. I can’t wait to get started!
