Even though I released Orbr’s debut single Circuit City in June 2020, I was laying the groundwork for Orbr’s true maiden voyage the previous summer.
Orbr is my drum & bass avatar, but the first few songs I recorded under that name were far from the world of jungle. I knew I wanted to lean hard in a sci-fi direction, but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to use house, techno, ambient, or even experimental as the genre vehicle for that work.
Don’t worry if you’re stuck at at desk job while your brain is stuck in the 90s — you can still have a rave in your headphones anytime you like! These old-school electronica mixtapes will take you back to where it all began.
It’s come the far reaches outer space to destroy humanity… after destroying a blunt.
Here comes the perfect combination of evil robots and smokin’ dub music for the fourth installment of my Class of ’93 mixtape series. Pulling audio from sci-fi thrillers, spaced-out ambient, and pitched-down techno from back in the day, Robot Dub Killer drops beats so heavy your squinty bloodshot eyes will roll right out of your head.
It wasn’t enough to comb the back of the crate for the best breakbeat rave hysteria. I had to kick it up another notch and pull out all the hardcore, psychedelic techno I could find, stick it in the blender, and fuck the shit up.
While making this mix I combed my archives for every rave, trance, breakbeat, jungle, and techno song I could find that was made on or before 1993 that I loved. I dropped them all in my laptop, pressed frappe, and out came this megamix of early 90s candy raver nostalgia. I hope you enjoy!
